Just Another Kinney Home Project

My mom, bless her heart, will never be content with any house as it is.  She continually finds a better location for each piece of furniture, she is constantly planning her next project around the house, and she even rearranges my furniture when she comes to visit.

About 8 years ago, my mom was already getting older, but not quite senile yet.  Or so I thought, anyway.  She was working on yet another home project of painting the two story foyer.  I came home and found her with a side table and a ladder on top of it.  I yelled at her and told her she should NOT be doing that!  If she fell, she was old and was going to hurt herself!  I told her to just hire someone!  Or let me do it!  But oh, no.....she was fine.  She could do it herself!  During that same project, she couldn't reach an area on the wall she wanted to paint, so she did what anyone would do: she put the ladder on the stairs.  (NO...no sane person would do this!)  Little to your surprise in mentally picturing this scene, she missed a step, fell, and broke her foot.  She had a walking boot and used this scooter thing for a month or two after that!

As a side note, she apparently landed somehow sitting IN one of my potted plants, and it has never been the same.  I am still trying to nurse it back to health, but about 2/3 of the plant was traumatized and died.  I'm not sure if the trauma was due to watching my mom's bottom coming down at a rapid rate...or just the fact that she full out sat on the plant.  Nevertheless, the plant is still pitiful.

I just talked to my mom last night, and she was SO proud of her latest accomplishment.  She told me how she just finished painting "my" bedroom at their house!  (It is really just a guest room, but apparently I will be sleeping there for the next two holidays.)  She really was excited, and she had already sent me multiple pictures.  It does look good!  I need to point out that the room has vaulted ceilings and the top part is almost two stories high.  I didn't think about that part...until my mom explained how proud of herself she was.  "I was so smart!  I put the dinner table on top of the bed and a ladder on top of the dinner table!  But don't worry-Daddy was there to make sure I was ok."  If you can get a mental picture, my dad has had 2 hip replacements, 2 knee replacements, and 2 spinal surgeries.  I'm guessing if she had fallen that his fate might've been worse than my plant's.  Luckily, no plants were hurt in the painting of the bedroom.  Oh-and luckily, my mom didn't fall...this time.
